Twitter announced in December that they would begin phasing out their Lead Generation/Lead Generation Card advertising products. Twitter Lead Generation campaigns allow the advertiser to capture the email address and contact information of the converting Twitter user. If you’re currently using Twitter to generate leads, here’s what you need to know.
When will this change go into effect?
The Twitter Lead Generation campaign type and Lead Generation Cards will be removed starting February 1, 2017. You will still be able to view, edit and delete these campaigns and your analytics for all campaigns will still be available at this time. On March 1, 2017, users will no longer be able to view lead generation cards, effectively ending all campaigns that were launched prior to February 1.
What does the end of Twitter Lead Generation Campaigns mean for your lead company?
If you currently use Twitter’s Lead Generation campaign, now is the time to adjust your campaigns and advertising spend. There are still other advertising options within Twitter, just none that will allow you to capture the user’s information without redirecting them to a landing page.
What are your other options?
There are a few different options you have for running similar lead generation campaigns from within Twitter or other lead platforms.
Inbound Phone CTA: Instead of asking your followers to fill out a lead generation form, why not advertise a phone number and generate that lead as an inbound call? This can work on Twitter as well as any other social media platform.
Push Notifications: Another great way to turn your social media impressions into leads is to drive users to one of your site pages that contains a push notification opt-in. Once the user opts into push notifications, you can push offers and lead generation campaigns to their web browser at any time.
Facebook Ads: If you’re interested in running ads similar to Twitter lead generation campaigns on another platform, Facebook is a great option. You can run standard CPC ads and redirect users to your landing page or even take advantage of Facebook Lead Ads. However, be aware that Facebook does not allow you to sell any leads you generate via their Lead Ad forms. However, if you’re generating leads for proprietary use such as finding lead buyers to partner with, you’re in the clear. You can even use our Facebook Lead Ad integration to capture each lead you generate.
